The initial preparations for MRAT’s 10th exhibition in early 2020 coincided with Australia’s first case of Covid-19. Little did we know that it would be another eighteen tumultuous months before any of the art was shown publicly, and not on display at a venue but through virtual interaction. This digital showcase may not have been what was planned, but after having the exhibition postponed three times, 26 artists were keen to pivot.
Macedon resident and multitalented creative, Lara Le Reveur, reached out from where she was living in Hamburg, Germany, with an offer to get this showcase online. Closer to home, Irene O’Duffy, a generous volunteer administrator and design tech star, also wanted to assist. The irrepressible Aimee Timpson, whose striking contemporary art appears inside, flew the flag for current Trailees.
Art exhibitions are indeed much more than sales. There is the vast behind-the-scenes workload; the heart and soul, and blood and sweat and tears from the artists’ studios; the camaraderie and networking; and there are you, the viewers and art appreciators. Hence, we decided to leave a pared down copy of the exhibition up online to reflect on in future days.
Let me know if you would like to find out more about the group. I would also be delighted to connect you with some of the excellent artists and galleries in this gorgeous region.
